Metanaut Unveils 'Wonder': A Hand-Tracking Mixed Reality Escape for Quest 3 Users
April 21, 2025
Kao expressed a desire to create high-quality experiences for an older audience in the XR industry, which has increasingly shifted focus away from premium titles.
Metanaut, the studio behind Gadgeteer, is preparing to launch 'Wonder', a mixed reality anthology designed to provide an immersive escape from daily life.
In 'Ancient Ruins', users' spaces transform into mysterious caves influenced by a black hole, while 'Jellyfish Bloom' presents a deep-sea adventure illuminated by bioluminescent jellyfish.
The audio experience for 'Wonder' is crafted by Ictus Audio, an award-winning studio recognized for winning the John Lennon Songwriting Award.
The anthology includes three distinct 20-minute experiences: 'Ancient Ruins', 'Jellyfish Bloom', and 'Parallel Worlds', each offering unique immersive environments.
This new anthology features a collection of mixed reality and VR experiences developed specifically for the Quest 3 and 3S devices.
Meanwhile, 'Parallel Worlds' introduces reality-bending portals that reveal alternate versions of the environment through various visual effects.
Scheduled for launch in the upcoming months, 'Wonder' was initially announced in late 2021 and will feature its three core experiences at launch.
Notably, 'Wonder' will be a hand tracking-only title, allowing users to interact with the experiences without the need for traditional controllers.
The app aims to provide users with an escape from their busy lives, offering a blend of magic and tranquility in everyday environments.
Currently available for pre-order at a price of $3.99, the price is expected to increase as more content becomes available after the launch.
Metanaut founder Peter Kao emphasized that the app will feature photorealistic visuals, achieved through advanced rendering techniques and scanned room meshes.
