HTC's XR Strategy Stalls Amid AI and Metaverse Focus, Financial Challenges Persist
July 7, 2026
HTC’s XR headset strategy appears to have stalled since the 2024 release of the VIVE Focus Vision, an enterprise-focused standalone headset that priced around $1,150 for XR and enthusiasts.
Beyond XR, HTC’s telecom subsidiary G REIGNS is pushing industrial applications, including an end-to-end open RAN solution for the US and remote areas, while bringing AI, 5G private networks, and edge computing to Taiwan’s deep-sea fishing industry.
HTC’s post-smartphone era remains challenging, with ongoing questions about converting user bases and strategic initiatives into meaningful revenue growth and regaining prominence in XR.
HTC Chairman Cher Wang highlighted AI as a key trend, with plans for the first AI-powered smart glasses, VIVE Eagle, to launch in the US and Europe in the third quarter of 2026.
The company is pivoting from smartphones to XR and AI, positioning AI, smart glasses, the VIVERSE metaverse, and enterprise hardware and services as new engines of growth.
VIVERSE has evolved into a user-generated platform, now boasting over 1.7 million monthly active users in May, hosting more than 32,000 pieces of content and drawing at least 14,000 creators.
Financially, HTC has stabilized after years of decline, reporting NT$292 million (~$10 million) in consolidated revenue for June 2026, an 8.5% year-over-year drop and a 9.7% decline for the first half of the year.
