Saint-Gobain UK launches a five-year zero-carbon logistics trial by introducing six fully electric VOLVO e-HGVs at the Midlands Logistics Hub near Nottingham, paired with four 350KW GRIDSERVE fast chargers.

The charging network will achieve about 80% battery in 90 minutes and a full charge in under two hours, supporting nonstop operation of the zero-emission fleet.

The six e-HGVs include five tractor units and one rigid unit and will begin operation in the UK between April and June this year.

XPO Logistics’ Dan Myers emphasizes a joint commitment to cutting emissions as part of broader sustainability goals, extending decarbonisation efforts beyond the UK.

Saint-Gobain and XPO have collaborated for more than 18 months on the ZEHID project, delivering zero-emission deliveries with expansion plans across Europe, including France, Spain, Morocco and Portugal.

The European sustainability initiative reflects ongoing collaboration across Central and Southern Europe and Africa, focusing on net-zero goals and reducing transport emissions.

The project targets reducing CO2e by about 800,000 kg annually, potentially 3,530 tonnes over five years under ZE HID, equating to the emissions of roughly 2,353 UK households.

The real-world testing program has run for over 18 months, with the first trials in Q2 2025 and plans to complete over 12,000 customer deliveries while avoiding more than 3,500 tonnes of CO2e in five years.

XPO Logistics highlights the partnership’s role in achieving zero-emission delivery goals and decarbonisation across Europe, including the first electric truck delivery to Saint-Gobain’s Building Glass fleet in Gennevilliers, France, in May 2025.
