Anti-Terror Probe Widens: Salah Abdeslam Under Scrutiny for Illicit USB and Terrorist Conspiracy
November 8, 2025
Authorities have stepped up monitoring in Abdeslam’s case, with regular jail cell changes and systematic searches of belongings, conducted under legal procedures that permit extended custody in terrorism investigations.
A second detainee is reported to be Maeva B., Abdeslam’s partner, accused of receiving illicit items for a detainee and of criminal terrorist conspiracy, with two additional individuals detained on similar charges.
RTL reported Maeva B. is among those detained and faces accusations related to illicit items for detainees and conspiracy to commit terrorism.
Olivier Christen, France’s anti-terrorism prosecutor, noted an uptick in jihadist threats over the past three years.
Abdeslam, held in Vendin-le-Vieil, was briefly questioned and re-arrested as the probe widened; another detainee’s custody has been extended beyond the initial 96 hours.
France is approaching the 10th anniversary of the November 13, 2015 Paris attacks, which killed 130 people and wounded hundreds at Bataclan, Stade de France and several bars and restaurants.
Under French law, custody extensions beyond 96 hours require a judge’s authorization and can occur if there is a serious risk of imminent terrorist action or for international cooperation needs.
The PNAT anti-terror unit has broadened its probe into Salah Abdeslam to include illicit possession of a USB memory stick found in prison and potential terrorist conspiracy.
Three people are now in custody as part of the investigation into a suspected terror threat tied to Abdeslam, the last surviving attacker from the 2015 Paris attacks.
The January 2025 investigation has expanded to include the offence of terrorist conspiracy tied to preparing crimes against individuals, with Abdeslam suspected of concealing illicit items in prison.
A prison union source said USB connections were found on Abdeslam’s computer used to transfer jihadist propaganda, though the USB stick itself was not recovered; he attends limited classes under strict monitoring.
