Apple's iOS 26.3 Masks Precise Location in Europe/UK, Enhances Privacy with Limit Precise Location Feature
October 3, 2026
Apple has introduced Limit Precise Location in iOS 26.3 to mask users’ location from cellular networks, reducing precise location data while preserving service quality and emergency functionality.
The feature does not guarantee complete privacy; signs of potential tracking include sudden slowdowns, battery drain, unknown apps, overheating, or unusual pop-ups, and users should review battery usage and check for unknown VPN or device management profiles.
The feature is available on iPhone 16e, 17e, Air, and iPad Pro M5 with 5G, and can be activated when using a carrier in the EU/UK or with a compatible SIM, though no U.S. carrier currently offers it by default.
Activation steps involve going to Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options, choosing the preferred line if multiple numbers exist, and toggling Limit Precise Location on (a device restart may be required).
Users can also limit location access at the app level via Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, turning off access for apps not needed, though some apps like Uber or Google Maps may require re-enabling access for functionality.
When enabled, carriers receive only a general idea of location instead of precise coordinates, and user experience, signal quality, and emergency calls remain unaffected; Find My and other location-based apps can still function as chosen by the user.
Users should stay vigilant about iPhone vulnerabilities and consider additional steps if they suspect unwanted tracking or compromise.
