A county council manages a suite of cultural venues—Lincoln Castle, Lincoln Museum, The Usher Gallery, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre at Coningsby, and The Museum of Lincolnshire Life—which together attracted 1.5 million visits and generated 15 million for Lincolnshire’s economy last year.

These venues play a key role in education and community engagement, with Lincoln Museum, The Usher Gallery, The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Visitor Centre, and The Museum of Lincolnshire Life contributing to learning and outreach.

Family-oriented library events, such as Costume Creator sessions inspired by The Hungry Caterpillar and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, were popular with young readers and helped bring stories to life.

The figures are part of a report discussed by the Children’s and Culture Scrutiny Committee on Friday 5 December 2025.

More than 20,000 schoolchildren participate annually in the council’s learning programmes, with a broad range of hands-on workshops linked to local heritage.

Between April 2024 and March 2025, Lincolnshire’s network of 15 core and 34 community hub libraries generated more than £25 million in social value, improving quality of life and educational achievement while easing pressure on medical services.

The council plans a £1.7 million redevelopment of Lincoln Museum, including a new archaeology gallery and interactive displays, set to reopen next year and highlighted in VisitEngland’s 2026 hotlist.

Councillor Natalie Oliver highlights the cultural and economic benefits of the attractions and anticipates further growth with the new museum gallery.

Lincoln Castle stands out, contributing £11 million to the county’s economy through flagship events like Live at Lincoln Castle concerts and the Illuminated display, alongside its Magna Carta heritage.
