Goodmann's Massive Meth Operation Dismantled: Six Sentenced to Lengthy Prison Terms
October 3, 2026
A high‑volume meth operation linked to Dubuque and Chicago involved Goodmann driving drugs and coordinating pickups, with documented deliveries including roughly 12 pounds of meth and other substances in September 2024, and multiple seizures across 2023–2025 yielding hundreds of grams to several kilograms.
Six individuals were sentenced in Cedar Rapids for conspiring to distribute large quantities of methamphetamine, receiving prison terms ranging from about 7 to 28 years.
The investigation spanned multiple agencies, including the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement, the Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, the Dubuque Police Department, and the Illinois State Police Narcotics and Currency Interdiction Task Force.
Goodmann and the Schmidts were linked to more than 450,000 grams of ice methamphetamine, described as astronomical by the sentencing judge.
Anthony Comer Goodmann led a large-scale meth operation tied to Dubuque and Chicago, driving heavy trafficking activity across Iowa and Illinois.
Evidence shows Goodmann began dealing pound-level amounts of ice methamphetamine around August 2021 and coordinated distribution through associates in Dubuque and Des Moines.
Police stops captured substantial meth seizures and other drugs: 260+ grams in 2023, 12 pounds in 2024, over 427 grams in 2024, 444 grams dumped during a 2025 stop, and 187 grams later in 2025.
The sentences include 307 months for Goodmann, 337 months for Michael Schmidt, 304 months for Nichole Schmidt, 125 months for Justin Smith, 118 months for Jason Weipert, and 87 months for Steven Paul; all will serve supervised release after prison.
