April 3, 2025
In the aftermath of the incident, residents of the hotel have been relocated to new temporary accommodations.
Dan Partridge, Area Manager of the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, commended the evacuation efforts and praised the fire crews for their prompt response.
As investigations by the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service continue, the cause of the fire remains unknown nearly a week later.
A significant fire severely damaged the Phoenix Hotel in North Weald Bassett, Essex, on March 28, 2025, while it was housing asylum seekers.
Approximately 25% of the hotel was affected by the blaze, but fortunately, there were no injuries reported.
However, the investigation has been hampered by a partial collapse of the hotel, which has made it unsafe for crews to enter.
Cllr Chris Whitbread, leader of Epping Forest District Council, has advised against speculation regarding the fire's cause.
