Rancocas Project Crankie: Art Event Highlights Local Climate Change Impacts at Perkins Center
April 29, 2025
The Perkins Center for the Arts in Moorestown is set to host the Rancocas Project Crankie Performance, a multimedia storytelling event aimed at addressing local climate change impacts.
Scheduled for May 3, 2025, this outdoor event will explore the local effects of climate change through a combination of storytelling, music, and visual arts.
Jin Jung, the creator of the project, was inspired by Hurricane Sandy and seeks to amplify the voices of those affected by climate-related disasters that often go underreported.
The artistic process has involved community engagement, including workshops with Perkins Summer Camp students, who contributed to the visual direction of the performance.
The performance aims to foster conversations about the emotional impact of climate disasters, encouraging audiences to witness and discuss the struggles faced by their neighbors.
Allison Hunt, the director of education at Perkins, underscores the importance of community support and conservation in addressing crises like climate change.
Created by artist Jin Jung, the performance will feature a crankie show, which is a hand-cranked moving picture presentation, accompanied by an original score composed by Julian Cartright.
This project is part of a broader initiative funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the New Jersey Coastal Management Program, with additional support from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts.
The free performance is scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2025, at 8 p.m., with attendees encouraged to arrive by 7:30 p.m.
The performance will highlight personal stories from Burlington County residents, including experiences of flood survivors and nature guardians, collected over the past year.
These narratives emphasize the often-overlooked consequences of climate-related disasters, showcasing the real-life impacts on individuals and communities.
