AVAIO Digital Enters Spain with €650M Algete Data Hub, Boosting Madrid's Digital Infrastructure
August 14, 2025
CEO Mark McComiskey emphasized Madrid's strategic position as a European hub for cloud computing and AI, highlighting Spain's opportunities for sustainable digital growth.
The facility will incorporate sustainable features such as rainwater recapture, rooftop solar, and water-efficient cooling systems, and is located on a site buffered from residential areas.
In addition to Spain, AVAIO has shown interest in projects in Texas and Ireland, with previous plans for a 50 MW project outside Ottawa, Canada, which is no longer active.
It will also feature low-latency connectivity to Madrid's key data center clusters and international markets via Spain's subsea cable landing points, facilitating rapid digital expansion.
AVAIO Digital, a US-based data center firm, is making its first entry into the Spanish market with a major project in Algete, Madrid, backed by a €650 million investment.
This new data center, named the Algete Data Hub and Scorpio, aims to boost Madrid's digital infrastructure, create over 500 jobs during construction, and support sustainable growth.
The project has secured 56.3 MW of clean power from Iberdrola, with additional capacity expected by 2028, and is designed to support cloud computing and AI applications.
AVAIO Digital's broader portfolio includes over 2 GW of power secured from utilities across the US and plans to develop nearly 450 MW by 2027, focusing on sustainable practices and innovative infrastructure.
Pedro Blanco, AVAIO's Project Manager in Spain, highlighted that the development will enhance Madrid's northern data center axis and promote environmentally friendly redevelopment of industrial sites in Algete.
