Katie Couric on Instagram: "This was issued by Brown University at 5:42 am. CNN is reporting that a person of interest is now in custody after the CNN team witnessed police activity at a hotel in the Providence area. Two students were killed and nine others wounded when a gunman entered a university building yesterday afternoon. All of the people killed or injured were students, President Christina H. Paxson said in an email to the community, calling it an “unimaginably tragic day.” As for the students still in the hospital, according to reports, one has been treated and released from the hospital, six were in critical but stable condition, one was in critical condition and one was in stable condition. This is so heartbreaking. I can’t stop thinking about the two students who were killed, their families, those in the hospital and the entire Brown community that has been traumatized. There was one student at Brown who witnessed the Parkland shooting when she was twelve years old. It’s just unbelievable. I have long advocated for stricter gun laws. I fear we have become numb to these mass shootings. One day I pray we will have the national will to do something about it. For now, all we can do is hold these families in our hearts and send them our deepest sympathy. By the way, today is the thirteenth anniversary of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. The victims were 20 children between six and seven years old, and six adult staff members. Please remember those families today as well."
