Phish opened Riviera Maya 2026 with a two-set, encore performance at Moon Palace Cancún featuring the debut of a new original, Fling Your Head, led by Mike Gordon with Page McConnell on piano and Jon Fishman on drums, finishing the final chorus with Gordon and Trey Anastasio sharing vocals.

Breath and Burning returned after a 160-show gap, and Dog Faced Boy made an encore appearance ending a 186-show gap since its previous performance.

Phish will perform nightly through January 31, 2026, with live streaming available on LivePhish and more details at the Riviera Maya festival site.

The show closed with a rare Dog Faced Boy performance, unplayed since 2021 Halloween, and a slow-burn Ghost encore, with the crowd paying tribute to late Grateful Dead figure Bobby Weir through clapping at the finale.

Fling Your Head draws from New Orleans blues and funk, featuring notable contributions from Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman, Trey Anastasio, and Page McConnell, reflecting the NOLA piano styles developed with The Meter Men in the 2010s.

The debut of Fling Your Head occurred at Moon Palace in Riviera Maya on January 28, 2026, with Gordon on bass, McConnell on piano, Fishman on drums, and Gordon and Anastasio sharing vocals for the final chorus.

Trey teased Call to the Post at the end of Chalk Dust Torture, and Character Zero featured a Heartbreaker jam influenced by Led Zeppelin.

The performance featured oceanic imagery in song selections and a high level of improvisation, especially in Fuego and Mercury.

Set II delivered seven core pieces with extended improvisation, starting with Waves, then a 25-minute Fuego, No Men In No Man’s Land, Mercury, and a Stevie Wonder cover, Boogie On Reggae Woman, followed by Backwards Down the Number Line and a Heartbreaker-infused Character Zero.

The first set showcased a blend of favorites and new material, including Hey Stranger, The Moma Dance, Back on the Train, Roggae, Sand, Breath and Burning (returning for the first time since July 2022), Sigma Oasis, and the debut of Fling Your Head, plus a 16-minute Chalk Dust Torture.

Notable moments included Breath and Burning’s long-awaited return and the premiere of Fling Your Head as a new original in Set I.
