DECODR, Inc. Launches to Expand Global Access to CRISPR Gene-Editing Software
May 14, 2026
DECODR, Inc. has launched as a for-profit spinout from ChristianaCare’s Gene Editing Institute to broaden access to DECODR software for evaluating CRISPR gene editing.
Launching DECODR, Inc. aims to accelerate feature development, provide commercial support, and expand global access to the software, ensuring ongoing innovation and impact in CRISPR research.
A new nonprofit software company, DECODR, Inc., launched by ChristianaCare to expand access to gene-editing tools and set up operations in Newark, Delaware.
The tool is independently validated and widely used, with citations in Scientific Reports, The CRISPR Journal, and Cells, and is considered superior for evaluating CRISPR edits in live somatic models.
As of March 2026, the tool has analyzed over 1.7 million files and has more than 5,000 registered users across hundreds of universities, organizations, and companies.
As of March 2026, DECODR has over 5,000 registered users at hundreds of universities, nonprofits, and companies, and has analyzed more than 1.7 million files across academia and industry.
DECODR is used across diverse settings including cell and gene therapy development, biotechnology, agricultural science, and animal model generation, as well as by contract research and manufacturing organizations that support CRISPR programs.
DECODR’s impact is evidenced by independent validation in top journals and widespread use across academia and industry, including gene therapy, biotech, agriculture, and animal model development.
Kanchana credits mentorship and trust from the Gene Editing Institute for enabling a young leader to helm a company that originated in Delaware and serves researchers globally.
Since its inception in 2019, DECODR originated from a student project by Rohan Kanchana and grew into a globally adopted research tool, now led by Kanchana as chief software engineer and director of DECODR, Inc.
The program was initially developed in 2019 by Rohan Kanchana, then a junior at Newark Charter High School, during an internship with the Gene Editing Institute, and is now led by Kanchana as DECODR’s director.
DECODR is software that deconvolves complex DNA repair outcomes after CRISPR edits, using standard Sanger sequencing data to rapidly and accurately identify insertions, deletions, and precise DNA repairs.
