Bengaluru's Urban Mobility Mission Committee for Bengaluru (UMMCB) has been formed to unify government agencies, private mobility operators, technology firms, experts, and citizen groups in addressing traffic and mobility challenges, with Home Minister Priyank Kharge chairing the effort.

The committee will replace siloed approaches with a coordinated, data-driven platform that involves multiple government departments, agencies, and private sector players.

Its mandate emphasizes coordinated, data-driven mobility solutions rather than isolated measures, under Kharge's leadership.

Key focus areas include strengthening public transport usage, improving first- and last-mile connectivity, and upgrading pedestrian and cycling infrastructure around metro, bus, and suburban rail stations.

Pedestrian and cycling infrastructure near major transport hubs will be examined to boost safety and ease of access.

The initiative prioritizes commuter safety, reliability, and encouraging public transport use.

Seven working groups will tackle traffic management and road safety, public transport integration, first/last-mile connectivity, mobility in corporate and technology clusters, digital mobility and data, urban freight and delivery movement, and infrastructure/roadworks coordination.

These seven task forces will address aims across traffic systems, transport coordination, last-mile links, tech-cluster mobility, data-driven mobility, urban logistics, and infrastructure coordination.

The initiative seeks improved coordination between public and private transport agencies.

The move signals collaboration with private mobility and logistics operators to tackle urban mobility challenges.
