TCS Launches India's First AI-Powered Lights-Out Factory Lab for Autonomous Manufacturing
September 9, 2026
TCS unveiled India’s first lights-out factory lab to simulate and validate AI-driven autonomous production systems before they run on real shop floors.
The lab demonstrates use cases such as predictive maintenance, automated quality inspection, real-time process optimization, and human–machine collaboration for autonomous factory operations.
It features a fully robotic battery pack assembly line and showcases autonomous manufacturing with minimal human intervention through AI, digital twins, robotics, and advanced factory systems.
Market context shows TCS shares trading about 2.4% lower on the NSE around midday on the launch day.
TCS reported continued revenue growth and solid margins, with Q1FY27 revenue of Rs 73,843 crore and operating profit margin of 24.75%, supported by a strong balance sheet and robust free cash flow of Rs 47,948 crore in FY26.
Moneycontrol notes the launch amid current IT stock market fluctuations.
TCS frames the broader goal of becoming the world’s largest AI-powered tech services company by enabling customers across the AI value chain—from infrastructure to intelligence.
Additional integrations include factory control systems, vision AI, and sensor-to-cloud industrial intelligence to connect shop-floor signals with edge and cloud platforms for context-aware decisions.
The facility aims to help manufacturers boost operational efficiency, resilience, and agility amid rising production complexities.
Sreenivasa Chakravarti, TCS Global Head & VP of Industrial Autonomy and Engineering, says the lab embodies TCS’s vision of AI-first production systems and a tangible shift toward reimagined manufacturing environments.
Chakravarti describes the lab as a tangible step toward turning lights-out manufacturing aspirations into reality.
He also emphasizes delivering a Human + AI model for autonomous production that reimagines manufacturing.
