A Cook County judge is set to appoint a single receiver to take control of both West Suburban and Weiss Memorial hospitals, aiming to stabilize operations, preserve assets, and support efforts to restore Weiss’s state license.

The receiver will oversee Weiss Memorial Hospital in Uptown Chicago and West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, with the goal of preserving the facilities and facilitating reinstatement of licensure.

Public comment from Prasad and Ramco was not immediately available; Ramco’s founder Patlola is a minority owner of Resilience.

Community advocates welcomed the move but stressed that substantial work remains and emphasized the need for ongoing community and corporate support to reopen.

Discussions continue about enforcing a settlement that could sell the hospitals to Insight Health Systems and require Prasad to step down as CEO, with further talks possible.

Advocates gathered outside the Daley Center for a news conference, highlighting concerns about access to high-quality healthcare in underserved areas and the safety net these facilities provided.

Prasad has attributed West Suburban’s closure to billing-system problems affecting claim payments, while Weiss’s closure followed Medicare termination and other systemic issues such as a broken air conditioning system.

Rathnakar Reddy Patlola of Ramco Healthcare Holdings expressed hope that both hospitals can resume operations and rehire laid-off employees.

Judge Stanton previously denied Ramco’s request but now plans to issue a formal order appointing a receiver early next week after losing confidence in current management.

The move challenges current operator Resilience Healthcare led by Dr. Manoj Prasad, who had sought to maintain management.
