A new AI-powered translation app named Ishaan, part of the National Language Translation Mission BHASHINI, was launched to translate among several Scheduled Languages and northeastern languages.

The project is a collaboration among IIIT Manipur and partner institutions including IIIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, Gauhati University, NIT Silchar, and the University of North Bengal.

Development draws on more than 300,000 sentence pairs and over 60 advanced neural machine translation resources to support translation quality.

Ishaan is designed to provide high-quality bidirectional translation across language pairs such as English-Manipuri, Hindi-Manipuri, English-Bodo, English-Nepali, and Assamese-Bodo.

The app is currently available on Android, with iOS development in progress, and it was launched at IIIT-Manipur’s auditorium in Mantripukhri under BHASHINI.
