Nestlé Nigeria's Massive Clean-Up Campaign Tackles Plastic Pollution Across 11 Cities
June 14, 2025
Nestlé Nigeria has launched its sixth consecutive nationwide clean-up and community sensitization campaign, reinforcing its commitment to environmental sustainability.
This initiative highlights Nestlé Nigeria's dedication to integrating sustainability into its operations while actively engaging local communities.
In collaboration with the African Clean-Up Initiative (ACI) and local authorities, the campaign marks another year of environmental initiatives.
The recent clean-up campaign successfully removed 5,601 kilograms of solid waste and 379.2 kilograms of recyclable waste, showcasing effective corporate-community collaboration.
A total of 516 Nestlé Cares volunteers participated in clean-up efforts across 11 cities, including high-footfall markets like Oke-Arin Market in Lagos and Utako Market in Abuja.
Nestlé Cares serves as an employee volunteering platform, empowering staff to engage in community service and enhance environmental and social responsibility.
Since the launch of the Employee Plastics Collection Scheme in 2022, Nestlé employees have recycled 5,922 kilograms of plastic waste, contributing to over 61,000 metric tons of plastic retrieved from the environment since 2019.
Nestlé aims for a waste-free future by partnering with organizations like the Food and Beverage Recycling Alliance and various recycling companies to promote circularity in plastics.
Mrs. Victoria Uwadoka from Nestlé Nigeria emphasized the initiative's alignment with the World Environment Day theme of 'Curbing Plastic Pollution,' highlighting the importance of internal accountability and stakeholder engagement.
Dr. Alex Akhigbe from the African Clean-Up Initiative described the campaign as part of a broader sustainability movement focused on collective responsibility and environmental consciousness.
The clean-up efforts were strategically conducted in locations selected based on waste burden and community impact, further enhancing the campaign's effectiveness.
