August 28, 2025
The project is projected to create over 800 direct jobs and will promote reliance on Egyptian inputs such as aluminum and glass during its development.
Global South Utilities CEO Eng. Ali Alshimmari emphasized that the project demonstrates the UAE's dedication to green energy, economic growth, and regional collaboration, embedding advanced technology and fostering future-ready talent.
Once operational, the facility will generate 2 gigawatts of solar power and include a 1-gigawatt energy storage system.
The 'Atum Solar Egypt' project, situated in Ain Sokhna along the Red Sea coast, will cover 200,000 square meters and feature a 2 GW solar cells factory for export and a 2 GW solar modules factory to serve Egypt and regional markets, supporting Africa's clean energy needs.
This project aims to establish one of the largest renewable energy manufacturing hubs in the region, with construction and testing expected to be completed within three years.
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, along with other officials, attended the signing ceremony of the agreement, which was signed by representatives from GSU, Egypt-TEDA SEZone Development Company, and AH Industrial Management, emphasizing the project's regional significance.
The project underscores the UAE's leadership in renewable energy and its strategic goal to strengthen economic and industrial ties across the Arab world and Asia, aligning with Egypt's Vision 2030.
The signing ceremony highlighted Egypt's commitment to regional cooperation in renewable energy development.
The project is a $220 million initiative developed through a partnership between Egypt, the UAE, Bahrain, and China, involving companies like JA Solar and AH Industrial Management.
The development includes a solar industrial complex in the Suhna Industrial Zone, aiming to boost regional renewable energy capacity.
Construction and implementation are expected to take up to three years, during which the project will create over 800 direct jobs and increase reliance on Egyptian inputs such as aluminum and glass.
