Maono Africa, active in sports, arts, education, health, and advocacy, will collaborate on modules that engage a broader youth demographic through purpose-driven storytelling, empowering young people to reflect their resilience and aspirations.
Since its launch in 2014, the Miraisha programme has trained over 7,000 creatives across 11 African countries, with more than 650 earning paid commissions and over 450 works showcased in exhibitions, publications, or screenings.
Canon views this partnership as part of its broader mission to foster Africa’s creative industry through local voices, emphasizing that empowering local storytellers is key to the continent's creative future.
The programme aims to create lasting community impact by teaching technical skills and inspiring local stories that reflect the diverse realities and aspirations of African youth.
Miraisha has established 33 partnerships across Africa and employs 25 locally trained Canon instructors, continuing its growth as a catalyst for opportunity and transformation in the regional creative industry.
The new partnership with Maono Africa involves specialized modules in visual storytelling, combining in-person workshops and virtual webinars scheduled between August and October 2025.
Kenneth Owili, founder of Maono Africa, expressed enthusiasm about empowering youth to create stories that reflect their realities, resilience, and aspirations through this initiative.
Canon Central and North Africa has partnered with Maono Africa to expand the Miraisha programme in Nairobi's Dandora area, focusing on training underserved youth and young mothers in photography and filmmaking.
This new partnership aims to run workshops from August to October 2025, combining in-person and virtual sessions that cover skills such as techniques, exposure, composition, shooting, and screen direction.
The initiative aspires to reach 10,000 participants by 2030, fostering sustainable livelihoods and creating tangible career pathways in Africa's creative industry.
