RTD to Build New Ghana Football Academy, Boosting Talent Development with $180M Investment
October 18, 2025
RTD is expanding its network of academies and clubs in Ghana, aiming to position the country at the heart of a three-continent football and talent development hub, fostering local talent and opportunities.
This expansion supports Ghana's football development through structured youth pathways and strengthens RTD's regional presence, reflecting a long-term commitment to creating more opportunities for Ghanaian youth.
A new RTD academy in Ghana, set to begin construction in early 2026 and open by 2027, will replace the Old Akrade base with a modern campus that will serve nearly 100 student-athletes, featuring classrooms, dormitories, pitches, and performance labs, with all scholarships maintained during a temporary relocation.
The new facility will combine elite football coaching with academic education, supporting the development of both sporting and scholarly talents, and will include upgraded infrastructure such as training pitches, dormitories, and performance centers.
RTD, owned by Mansour Group since 2021, has expanded globally with investments exceeding US$180 million, opening academies in Cairo and San Diego, and this project in Ghana is part of the group's broader investment in youth development.
RTD’s model integrates full scholarships with elite coaching, producing professionals and scholars, with alumni now representing national teams and top leagues, demonstrating the program’s success in developing talent.
Prominent Ghanaian football figures like Michael Essien and David Accam have praised the Mansour Group’s plans for the new Ghana academy, calling it a landmark development for youth empowerment and talent development in Ghana.
The new Ghana campus will unify training, education, and support infrastructure, with Ghana-based staff and student support maintained throughout the construction process.
The Mansour Group’s investment aligns with Ghana’s broader economic and industry goals, integrating sport, education, and industry training to develop talent and keep youth on structured pathways.
Accam highlighted RTD’s positive impact on Ghana’s national teams and its expanding alumni in coaching and leadership roles, indicating a deep talent pipeline beyond just players.
RTD’s growth over two decades has improved opportunities for students through a deeper academic pathway and a linked club system with FC Nordsjaelland and a US franchise, making the new Ghana campus a logical next step.
This project is part of Mansour Group’s broader investment in Ghana, which has exceeded US$600 million across various sectors over the past decade, reflecting a strong commitment to the country’s development.
