OpenAI's CEO, Sam Altman, has announced an ambitious plan to develop AI-specific hardware in collaboration with Jony Ive, the former Chief Design Officer at Apple.

Altman believes this initiative could lead to the most significant technological disruption since the launch of the iPhone in 2007.

Rather than creating a traditional smartphone, OpenAI is focusing on a Generative AI device, marking a potential innovation in digital devices for the first time in two decades.

With over 300 million users globally, OpenAI is strategically positioned to lead the AI market by integrating optimal terminals for its ChatGPT software.

In addition to the hardware project, OpenAI is collaborating with SoftBank Group and Oracle on the AI Stargate business, which is valued at $500 billion.

During his visit to Japan, Altman emphasized the hope to create AI hardware together with Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and SoftBank Chairman Masayoshi Son.

Reports suggest that this new device may be less socially intrusive than the iPhone, as hinted by Altman in previous discussions.

Prior to this meeting, Altman revealed plans for new smartphones and semiconductors in an interview with Nihon Keizai Shimbun.
