The OpenSearch Software Foundation celebrated its first anniversary on August 25, 2025, marking a year of significant growth in community engagement, technological progress, and industry support since its formation under the Linux Foundation in September 2024.

Major technical milestones include open source releases 3.0, 3.1, and 3.2, which introduced advanced vector engines, support for agentic AI, hybrid search, and real-time insights, with query speeds up to 65% faster and an 11x increase from version 1.3 to 3.2.

Recent updates added support for gRPC, streaming aggregation, cross-cluster trace search, and upgraded to Lucene 10, significantly improving performance and observability features.

Supported by the Linux Foundation, the foundation's platform has seen rapid development in open source AI-powered search, observability, and analytics, attracting participation from over 400 organizations and more than 8,800 contributions from countries including the US, Germany, the UK, Australia, and India.

Since its launch, the foundation experienced a 78% increase in project downloads year-over-year, surpassing 1 billion downloads, indicating strong adoption across the industry.
