December 9, 2025
A Pre-Summit Event led by IndiaAI Mission and the Centre for Responsible AI at IIT Madras, in Chennai, on December 11, sets the stage ahead of the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, with MeitY framing the initiative toward safe, trusted, and inclusive AI.
The Global South will host the India-AI Impact Summit 2026, scheduled for February 15–20 in New Delhi at Bharat Mandapam.
Its key focus areas include fairness, algorithmic accountability, safety risks, bias mitigation, and transparency, with an emphasis on auditability and public trust in model development.
Discussions will translate AI safety and governance mandates into actionable policies under the Safe & Trusted AI Working Group to create a transparent, trustworthy AI ecosystem.
The conclave aims to foster cross-border collaboration among government, industry, academia, and civil society to shape globally consistent yet locally applicable AI frameworks, guiding India's role in a trusted, inclusive global AI network.
The Safe & Trusted AI Working Group, chaired by Prof. Balaraman Ravindran, is building an ecosystem focused on transparency, reliability, and public trust to drive responsible AI innovation and equitable benefits.
Conversations will cover governance and regulatory models adaptable to diverse cultural, legal, and technological contexts, encouraging cross-border collaboration among government, industry, academia, and civil society.
The conclave seeks to translate AI safety and governance principles into practical frameworks, including creating an AI Safety Commons for the Global South with shared datasets, benchmarks, and governance resources.
A core objective is to convert responsible AI principles into interoperable yet locally grounded governance and regulatory models across different cultures and systems.
Attendees will include high-level officials and academics, such as Tamil Nadu’s Industries Minister TRB Rajaa, IIT Madras Director Kamakoti, and scholars like Sriraam Natarajan, along with MeitY officials and international experts.
Notable participants at the Pre-Summit include Minister TRB Rajaa, IIT Madras Director Prof. Kamakoti, and Prof. Balaraman Ravindran, who chairs the Safe & Trusted AI Working Group, with representation from MeitY and global experts.
