Medly AI, founded by UCL medical graduates Dr. Paul Jung and Dr. Kavi Samra, has raised about £6 million in seed funding to provide an AI tutor for exam preparation and make personalized tutoring accessible to all students.

The seed round was led by Felix Capital and included Eka Ventures, Ada Ventures, several angel investors, and notable backers such as Andrey Dobrynin, Al Giles, Jean Hammond, and Hector Mason, with additional support from a government AI tutoring grant.

Medly also announced an USD 8 million seed funding tranche led by Felix Capital, supported by Eka Ventures, Ada Ventures, angels, and a Department for Education grant under the AI Tutoring Tools Pioneers Programme.

Early results show GCSE students who used Medly last summer improved at least one grade in most cases.

Since its February 2025 launch, Medly has surpassed 400,000 UK users, with daily activity averaging about one hour per student and roughly one million AI tutor messages sent daily.

The platform is currently conducting an ongoing trial with over 1,000 students, noting significant GCSE improvement among users.

Medly has conducted research comparing its automated marking with human examiners and run a randomised controlled trial with more than 1,000 UK students to measure attainment gains in lower-performing schools.

The company is building proprietary models for marking and pedagogy and developing features that support study beyond the standard curriculum, including higher education preparation.

Medly’s tutor provides instant feedback on practice questions, highlights potential marks gains, and uses handwriting recognition for maths and chemistry when students use a tablet or stylus.

The AI tutor reports improvements in grades, with 74% of GCSE users increasing by at least one grade and 41% by two grades or more.

Medly aims to broaden access to tailored academic support and demonstrate that high-quality, AI-enabled tutoring can improve exam performance at a non-premium price.

Seed funds will be used to grow the UK student community, expand internationally, advance AI capabilities, and research the platform’s impact on outcomes.
