Nationwide AI System Launches to Revolutionize Public Services and Governance
August 25, 2026
South Korea unveiled a plan to operate 24-hour AI-assisted public services across welfare, safety, taxes, agriculture, and food and drug information, with the AI National Secretary linking major services and enabling use on private platforms like Kakao and Naver, aiming for rollout by the end of next year.
The system will provide AI-based guidance on care services, infectious diseases, dietary information, and taxation, supported by upcoming AI consultations that cover welfare, public safety, taxes, agriculture, and food.
CM-DIP will evolve from dashboards to a decision-support system that flags issues, assigns responsible officers, sets deadlines, and tracks the impact of actions while ensuring data quality and governance across departments.
Long-term AI skilling will involve partnerships with IIT (ISM) Dhanbad, NIT Jamshedpur, and IIIT Ranchi, with industry internships and placement opportunities, plus emphasis on gender and tribal inclusion and measuring learning outcomes beyond attendance.
Jharkhand AI Policy 2026 aims to move from pilots to measurable governance improvements, establishing a State AI Mission, JAP-IT as nodal agency, and shared AI infrastructure including a Jharkhand AI Cloud and CM-DIP.
The policy centers on a governance-focused roadmap with measurable citizen outcomes, transparent procurement, robust data governance, and local capacity-building to ensure AI-enabled public services are effective.
The plan engages global technology providers and cloud partners, stressing public data control, open APIs, audit rights, data portability, clear IP terms, and practical exit options to avoid vendor lock-in.
A Responsible AI and inclusion framework aligned with national guidelines and data protection acts will include AI impact assessments, bias/privacy tests, high-impact system registries, and citizen rights to appeal.
Public data initiatives will open the 'Public Data Top 100' and create a pan-government data pipeline, complemented by a public AI impact assessment and ethics standards to address personal data and accountability.
Officials emphasized citizen sovereignty and daily-life improvements as the core objective of AI in governance, ensuring people remain at the center of state operations.
The leadership stressed empowering ordinary citizens and making governance more responsive through AI, not technology for its own sake.
The emphasis is on tangible benefits in daily life while maintaining citizen-centric governance across state functions.
