Reach is an upcoming high-intensity VR action-adventure game developed by nDreams Elevation, designed to push the boundaries of existing VR mechanics.

The game has been in development since 2022 and was recently showcased at the Summer Game Fest, where a demo focused on tutorial mechanics was presented.

Set to release later in 2025, Reach will be available on PS VR2, SteamVR, and Quest headsets.

Shuhei Yoshida, a veteran in the gaming industry, has been involved with Reach since its early stages and now serves as an ambassador for the game after leaving Sony in January 2025.

Yoshida expressed optimism for the future of VR, noting advancements in technology that enhance immersion and the quality of games like Reach.

He also shared his initial struggles with the game's acrobatics but has since been able to play for extended periods without feeling nauseated, thanks to the developers' improvements.

The development team faced challenges with the game's mechanics, particularly the mantling feature, which they adjusted to be more forgiving for new players.

Mantling now requires players to push the left analog stick forward, ensuring they won't fall even if their inputs are not perfect, which is especially helpful in seated mode.

Additionally, the flinging mechanics underwent extensive testing to ensure ease of use, allowing players to quickly transition between ledges with natural movements.

Developers recognized the need to balance the game's fast-paced action with intuitive controls to minimize motion sickness for players, particularly newcomers to VR.

In gameplay, players assume the role of a reluctant hero navigating through an underground civilization, facing human enemies and evading a helicopter.

During the demo, players experienced fluid movement after adjusting to the controls, indicating that familiarity with VR significantly enhances gameplay.
