Firefighters in Victoria's west are combating two bushfires under challenging conditions, including high temperatures and strong winds.

The Dereel bushfire expanded quickly, leading to a call for residents to shelter in place, but it has been contained to an area of approximately 100 hectares with limited property damage.

The Beaufort bushfire, which started last week, has been kept within control lines, although it resulted in the loss of at least six homes.

Despite a drop in temperature, firefighters remain vigilant as fire behavior could change, and are closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with the Bureau of Meteorology.

The Country Fire Authority's chief officer has commended the firefighters for their effective response in controlling the fires and reducing the impact on properties.
