Fiona MacDonald, a beloved Australian television host, passed away at the age of 67 after a courageous battle with motor neurone disease (MND), with the news announced on October 3.

Ultimately, MacDonald made the difficult decision to cease all medical support and enter palliative care to find comfort in her final days.

Despite her diagnosis, MacDonald actively raised over A$223,000 for MND research, including a remarkable 15,500km road trip around Australia with her sister.

Colleagues and fans remembered MacDonald for her warm personality and infectious laughter, noting her ability to light up a room.

In a poignant Instagram post shared by her sister, MacDonald expressed relief at leaving her suffering behind and described her last moments as peaceful, surrounded by family.

In her farewell message, she conveyed her love for life and her hope of reuniting with loved ones after death, concluding with a touching Irish blessing.

Diagnosed with MND in late 2021, MacDonald faced a progressive and terminal condition that severely limited her mobility and bodily functions.

In the months leading up to her death, her condition worsened, resulting in significant challenges such as swallowing difficulties and severe back pain.

MacDonald was well-known for her roles on popular television programs such as the children's show 'Wombat' and the game show 'It's a Knockout' during the 1980s.

Throughout her illness, she struggled with severe symptoms, including weight loss and an inability to swallow normal food, which ultimately contributed to her decision to enter palliative care.

She is survived by her two sons, Harry and Rafe, as well as her sisters Kylie and Jacki, who also has a background in television.
