Isabella Rose Wheildon, a two-year-old girl, tragically died after enduring severe abuse allegedly inflicted by her mother, Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell, and her partner, Scott Jeff, in Ipswich.

The prosecution revealed that Isabella had cocaine in her system and extensive injuries consistent with severe physical abuse, including fractures and trauma to multiple areas of her body.

The couple had been living in temporary accommodations after claiming homelessness and escaping domestic abuse, but they refused offers of housing that did not include Jeff.

Isabella's body was discovered concealed under blankets in a shower at the housing unit on June 30, 2023, following a tip from a friend of Gleason-Mitchell.

Both Gleason-Mitchell and Jeff were arrested in Bury St Edmunds on July 1, 2022, after police located them following a report about Isabella's death.

The trial continues as the court examines the circumstances surrounding Isabella's tragic death, with testimonies expected to last between six to eight weeks.

A post-mortem examination revealed extensive traumatic injuries and fractures, with the cause of death determined as a 'bone marrow embolism caused by skeletal trauma.'

The court described a 'regime of escalating brutality' inflicted on Isabella by Jeff and her mother, indicating a drastic change in her environment after Jeff's arrival.

Prosecutor Sally Howes KC stated that police officers noted a 'very strong smell' and discovered Isabella's lifeless body with severe bruising.

Gleason-Mitchell is accused of allowing her daughter's death to happen by failing to intervene or seek help, while she has pleaded guilty to causing or allowing the death of a child.

Scott Jeff has denied causing or allowing Isabella's death, while Chelsea Gleason-Mitchell has pleaded guilty to causing or allowing her daughter's death but denies murder.

Prosecutors allege that Jeff repeatedly beat Isabella, inflicting multiple fractures and injuries, and punished her with cold showers.
