Qantas has released a first look at the Sydney international business lounge refurbishment, unveiling a 150-square-metre outdoor terrace designed to support pre-flight wellness for ultra-long-haul Project Sunrise flights slated to start in 2027.

The Sydney lounge will widen seating by more than 30% and introduce flexible zones, including shared spaces and quiet work areas with USB-C power and wireless charging, designed by Caon Design Office and Akin Atelier with Architectus’ New Zealand studio providing architectural support.

This refresh fits a broader post-COVID premium-travel trend, as lounges become a competitive battleground where airlines vie on food, beverage, seating, and overall on-ground experience to attract affluent travelers.

Qantas is upgrading multiple lounges beyond Sydney, including Los Angeles International and several domestic regional lounges, as part of a wider push to enhance premium travel offerings.

The lounge interior will evoke Sydney’s geography, drawing on the Blue Mountains and Bondi Beach for color and texture, with a emphasis on natural light and fresh air.

Construction on the Sydney lounge begins December 8, with passengers directed to a temporary international business lounge at Terminal 1 or to Plaza Premium Lounge during the renovation.

Separately, the Auckland International Lounge is being renovated and will reopen on December 17 to serve trans-Tasman travelers, highlighting New Zealand’s natural beauty.
