Western Mines Group Launches Ambitious 2026 Drill Program at Mulga Tank, Targets High-Grade Sulphide Zones
January 23, 2026
Western Mines Group begins 2026 field season at Mulga Tank in Western Australia with a multi-rig drill program aiming to grow resources and chase high-grade sulphide zones, including deep diamond and RC holes to extend the footwall and basal contact.
A shallow RC target near Mulga Tank yielded a 269-metre mineralised interval (0.33% Ni, 144 ppm Co, 215 ppm Cu from 61 m), with seven additional RC holes planned to chase extensions and discover new high-grade zones.
Following phase four work, rigs will move to the Panhandle area to test a mineralised komatiite sequence with further RC and diamond drilling, funded again by EIS grants.
The campaign includes deep diamond drilling and nine RC holes to infill and extend resources, starting with expanding a deep, previously co-funded hole to better define the footwall and basal contact while collecting downhole EM data.
The 2026 program launches with a multi-rig drill campaign at Mulga Tank to grow resources and probe for high-grade sulphide zones across nickel, copper, cobalt, and PGEs.
A downhole EM conduit will be used to target the basal contact in the deep-hole program.
Nine RC holes will drill within the Mulga Tank body, including three infill holes to reduce spacing near indicated resources and six extension holes beyond the current resource shell.
With ongoing drilling and robust funding, Mulga Tank is positioned as a potentially globally significant nickel sulphide discovery.
The project’s scale and geology on the Minigwal Greenstone Belt underpin its status as Australia’s largest nickel sulphide resource.
The company’s funding posture is strong, driven by an October capital raise and EIS grants that will support continuous drilling over the coming months and target high-priority zones.
Mulga Tank has a long track record of compelling drilling results and remains under-explored, signaling potential for higher-grade massive sulphide accumulations at depth.
Mulga Tank sits on the Minigwal Greenstone Belt and hosts Australia’s largest nickel sulphide resource, with a contained metal inventory of about 5.3 Mt Ni, 257 kt Co, 161 kt Cu, and 1.1 Moz Pt+Pd.
