Amazon has launched a fleet of electric cargo bikes in Antwerp, operating from its Blue Gate delivery station and expanding its zero-tailpipe emission network from Brussels and other European cities.

Antwerp joins other European cities like Berlin, Lyon, and Manchester in deploying e-cargo bike deliveries, becoming the second Belgian city to use e-cargo bikes for Amazon packages.

Since March 2024, collaborations with the National Park have included Smart Solutions innovation, citizen science monitoring, and promoting sustainable farming practices.

The Antwerp rollout sits within Amazon’s Climate Pledge and its broader push to innovate last-mile delivery for sustainability and efficiency.

The Antwerp initiative will replace part of traditional van deliveries in the city center, with electric vans used for larger or heavier parcels to reduce traffic and emissions.

This rollout is part of a broader decarbonisation strategy, noting more than 60 micromobility hubs across over 45 European cities enabling zero-exhaust deliveries.

Packages are loaded onto e-cargo bikes for the final leg into the city center, leveraging Antwerp’s cycling network to alleviate congestion and parking challenges while prioritizing rider safety through training and helmets.

Safety and training are central, with partners required to follow stringent safety protocols and Amazon providing safety gear and equipment to delivery associates.

Amazon’s environmental commitments extend beyond urban delivery, including a €1.1 million investment in the National Park Brabantse Wouden through the Right Now Climate Fund to protect UNESCO-listed woodlands and support local communities.
