European Sleeper Revives Paris-Berlin Night Train, Boosting Sustainable Travel Options
November 14, 2025
Night trains across Europe are experiencing a revival as advocacy groups push them as a greener alternative to flying.
ÖBB’s former Paris/Brussels–Berlin/Vienna night train struggled with punctuality and was discontinued, paving the way for a renewed direct Paris–Berlin connection under European Sleeper.
European Sleeper will resume the Paris to Berlin night train via Brussels starting in March 2026, running on alternating days with the Brussels–Prague night train.
The new Paris–Berlin route departs Paris-Nord and passes through Douai, Aulnoye, Mons, Brussels, Liège and Aachen before reaching Berlin, and it will not stop in Amsterdam as earlier itineraries did.
Historically, the Paris–Berlin night train ran via Belgium but was discontinued in 2008, with other variants like Strasbourg–Mannheim and later Deutsche Bahn cancellations of night trains; only a Moscow–Paris service survived briefly during the pandemic era.
The announcement reconnects several major European cities by night train, expanding travel options and feeding into ongoing discussions about sustainable long-distance rail travel.
Since its 2023 launch, European Sleeper has established itself as a notable independent international train operator, carrying over 230,000 passengers on more than 750 night trains.
