Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has launched a committee dedicated to developing a circular economy and climate change policy aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability.

This initiative underscores the administration's focus on community resilience to climate shocks, particularly in rural and coastal areas, positioning Ondo State as a leader in environmental governance.

The committee's primary responsibilities include crafting a policy framework for transitioning to a circular economy and establishing a climate change roadmap that aligns with national and global standards.

The proposed policy framework aims to minimize waste and maximize resource efficiency, fostering a circular economy.

Additionally, the policies are designed to create 'waste-to-wealth' solutions, improve carbon credit readiness, and enhance access to climate finance, ultimately supporting youth employment through green jobs.

These initiatives are expected to stimulate green innovation, attract investment, and generate jobs in vital sectors such as agriculture, energy, waste management, and manufacturing.

The committee will comprise diverse professionals from key ministries, development agencies, the private sector, academia, and civil society, ensuring an inclusive approach to policy formulation.

Stakeholder collaboration, including local communities and private sector partners, is essential to support the transition towards a climate-resilient economy.

Furthermore, the committee will formulate a climate change roadmap that aligns with Nigeria's national commitments, the Paris Agreement, and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
