Counter-Strike 2 Season 5: Cache Returns, New Maps & Explosive Gameplay Overhaul
July 9, 2026
Counter-Strike 2 launches Season 5 with Cache returning to the Active Duty map pool in place of Overpass, marking a major map lineup update for competitive play.
Season 5 introduces a mix of core gameplay changes, map pool adjustments, and cosmetic additions aligned with the Premier Season Five launch.
The update brings a redesigned bomb explosion system, expanding from a traditional blast to a propagating shockwave that interacts with walls and corners, and includes a health indicator to show survivability before detonation.
C4 explosion range and shockwave behavior have been reworked, with precomputed map-specific damage to influence strategy and gameplay dynamics.
Quality-of-life improvements include numerous bug fixes, map adjustments, and scoreboard optimizations aimed at smoother performance and responsiveness in matches.
In addition to the shockwave changes, the explosion system now features walls blocking blasts and corners reducing impact, adding strategic considerations for positioning.
Technical tweaks include map-specific visual and collision fixes for titles like Inferno and Dust II, along with adjustments to explosion visuals.
Two new Armory weapon collections, Spy Tech and Arabesque, alongside two new sticker collections, Fruits & Vegetables and Auto Racing, expand cosmetic options.
Armory rotations also shift, rotating out several older sticker sets while introducing the new collections for players to obtain.
The update aligns with IEM Cologne 2026, sustaining Valve’s cadence of rotating maps and expanding cosmetics to balance competitive and casual play.
Five community maps join the rotation across Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Wingman: Boulder, Fachwerk, Shelter (in three modes), Debris and El Dorado (Wingman).
Concurrently, Warden, Stronghold, Alpine, and Sanctum are removed, making Boulder, Fachwerk, and Shelter more prevalent across modes while Debris and El Dorado enter Wingman.
