The sandbox will enable U.S. regulators to monitor live projects, such as tokenized real estate and financial instruments, without immediate regulatory action.

On April 22, 2025, the SEC's Crypto Task Force issued a memo supporting this proposal, which aims to provide U.S. regulators with real-world data from El Salvador's crypto-friendly ecosystem.

If successful, the sandbox could offer the SEC valuable insights into blockchain applications and help alleviate uncertainty for U.S. businesses regarding cryptocurrency regulations.

This proposal also promotes international cooperation by aligning El Salvador's crypto activities with U.S. regulatory monitoring.

El Salvador has proposed a cross-border cryptocurrency sandbox to the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) aimed at facilitating real-world testing of blockchain technology.

Pilot projects within the sandbox will comply with Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) standards, with local regulations enforced by CNAD and potential additional requirements from the SEC.

However, concerns regarding investor protection and market manipulation may delay approval of the proposal, necessitating robust safeguards for the sandbox.

Should the initiative prove successful, it could influence global cryptocurrency policies and encourage the U.S. to accelerate its regulatory framework for digital assets.

El Salvador's commitment to participating in global cryptocurrency innovation is further demonstrated by its Bitcoin Law, which recognizes Bitcoin as legal tender and includes the use of the state-backed Chivo wallet.

The initiative has already attracted interest from blockchain startups and investors, reflecting El Salvador's proactive stance in the evolving digital asset landscape.
