Revolut Secures Gibraltar Licence to Expand Crypto Services Globally
October 19, 2026
The firm has not disclosed which markets the Gibraltar entity will serve or its rollout timeline, noting that target regions and plans will be announced later.
Revolut began rolling out its EURR euro-pegged stablecoin to select customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal in August, with a broader EEA rollout planned later this year.
The regulatory milestone aligns with Revolut's broader strategy to offer regulated financial and cryptocurrency services across multiple jurisdictions.
Emil Urmashin, Revolut's general manager of crypto and new bets, says the approval underscores regulatory compliance and positions Gibraltar's framework as a foundation for expanding trusted crypto services internationally.
As part of its global strategy, Revolut is pursuing international approvals, including conditional US banking authorization, with the understanding that not all services will be available to all 80 million customers.
VARA's preliminary approval covers digital asset broker-dealer, exchange, management, and investment activities, with final UAE access contingent on regulatory steps and existing approvals from the Central Bank of the UAE for Revolut's payments business.
Revolut has secured a Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) Provider licence from Gibraltar's Financial Services Commission to operate crypto trading, custody, and staking outside the UK and EU/EEA through a new subsidiary, Revolut Global Digital Assets Limited (RGDAL).
Separately, Revolut has resumed onboarding new customers in Gibraltar, allowing residents to open accounts and access payments and electronic money services.
Gibraltar residents can now onboard fully, while details on international launches remain undisclosed.
As part of its expansion push, Revolut recently gained approval to launch Revolut Bank UK after banking restrictions were lifted, and it has received conditional approval from the U.S. OCC toward a potential U.S. banking charter.
Revolut serves over 80 million retail customers worldwide, including more than 16 million crypto users, underscoring a large potential market for new crypto offerings.
Revolut has not disclosed which additional countries will receive services through the Gibraltar entity, with details to be announced later.
