Unsaflok Breach: New Hack Opens Thousands of Hotel Rooms Worldwide
March 27, 2024
A new hotel keycard hacking method, 'Unsaflok,' targets Saflok-brand RFID locks and could affect over 13,000 hotels in 131 countries.
Only 36% of the vulnerable locks have been updated or replaced, leaving a majority exposed to the exploit.
The hack involves manipulating data on a hotel keycard and two MIFARE Classic keycards allowing unauthorized access to rooms.
Guests can use the NFC Taginfo app to determine if their hotel room lock is susceptible to the Unsaflok vulnerability.
Dormakaba is working on patches, but the complete resolution could take a considerable amount of time, with some locks potentially irreparable.
Hotels are considering additional security measures such as physical upgrades, multifactor authentication, and password protections to combat the issue.
