The US Defense Department has established a new office, the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Cyber Policy (ASD(CP)), as mandated by the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2023.

The ASD(CP) is tasked with overseeing the Department of Defense's policy on cyber operations and acts as the Principal Cyber Advisor to the Secretary of Defense.

Ms. Ashley Manning has been appointed to lead the new cyber policy office on an interim basis, pending confirmation of a presidential nominee.

The office's responsibilities include developing and coordinating cyber policy and strategy, managing the Cyberspace Operations Budget, and integrating cyber operations into defense plans and activities.

The ASD(CP) will also spearhead cyberspace-related security cooperation initiatives.
