Grammy-winning keyboardist and composer Jim Beard has died at 63 due to complications from a sudden illness.

Beard was a longtime touring member of the rock band Steely Dan, having joined in 2008.

His notable career achievements include collaborations with jazz legends, publishing over 100 compositions, and winning a Grammy in 2007.

He recently performed on The Long Goodbye tour with Steely Dan and The Eagles, and was also an active music instructor.

Jim Beard is mourned by his two children, extended family, and peers in the music industry, including guitarist Pat Metheny who highlighted his musical insight.
