During the Anime Expo 2025 panel, Studio TRIGGER and CD Projekt Red announced that production has begun on 'Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2' for Netflix.

The sequel will consist of 10 standalone episodes set in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe, exploring new narratives while introducing an entirely new cast of characters.

Showrunner Bartosz Sztybor indicated that this season will delve into deeper emotional themes, with an emphasis on increased violence and a darker tone compared to the first season.

Although the story of the original protagonist, David, has concluded, Sztybor expressed excitement about the many untold stories that Night City still holds.

The new series aims to present a standalone narrative that is both sadder and more intense, contrasting the romanticized portrayal of edgerunners in the first season.

Kai Ikarashi, who directed episode 6 of the first season, will take on the role of director for this sequel, marking his directorial debut.

While specific details about the storyline remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that returning characters may face new challenges due to the conclusion of the original series.

Although no official release date has been announced, the series will stream exclusively on Netflix, and teaser footage was shown to select attendees during the panel.

In addition to the sequel announcement, a physical Blu-Ray release of the original Edgerunners series is scheduled for October 28, 2025, with pre-orders starting in August.

The Blu-Ray package will include special features such as storyboards and a two-year anniversary poster, marking the series' first release outside of streaming platforms.

The original Edgerunners series received critical acclaim, rated five out of five, and significantly contributed to the resurgence of interest in the Cyberpunk 2077 game.

This announcement follows a teaser from September 2024, where Netflix hinted at a return to Night City, initially presented as a glitch during a Geeked Week event.
