Aamir Khan has announced the global release of his film 'Sitaare Zameen Par' exclusively on YouTube, starting August 1, 2025, following an 8-week theatrical release window.

This innovative distribution strategy aims to make cinema more accessible, breaking geographical barriers and providing convenient viewing options for a global audience.

Khan emphasized the importance of reaching a wider audience, noting that historically only 2-3% of the population watches films in theaters.

The film will be available for rent at INR 100 ($1.15) in India and 38 international markets, with localized pricing to enhance accessibility.

Directed by R.S. Prasanna, 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is a Hindi-language remake of the Spanish film 'Champions', featuring Khan as a disgraced basketball coach training players with intellectual disabilities.

The film celebrates themes of love, laughter, and inclusivity, serving as a spiritual successor to Khan's 2007 hit 'Taare Zameen Par'.

This partnership with YouTube reflects the platform's goal of expanding its premium content offerings while providing filmmakers a viable alternative to traditional distribution methods.

Gunjan Soni from YouTube India noted that the platform connects with four out of five internet users in India aged 18 and above, making it a powerful medium for film distribution.

Khan believes this model could benefit emerging filmmakers by giving them more opportunities to showcase their work without the barriers of theatrical releases.

Criticizing subscription-based streaming models as unsustainable, Khan favors YouTube's pay-per-view approach for long-term film distribution.

Looking ahead, Khan plans to release all films produced under Aamir Khan Productions on YouTube after their theatrical runs, aiming for wider reach at minimal cost.
