The iconic Mumbai-based Independence Rock music festival, which has been a major event since its founding in 1986, will not be held in 2025, marking a pause after its 30th anniversary edition in 2024.

Organizers confirmed the cancellation, explaining that the break is intended to be a moment for reflection and reimagination rather than a permanent end.

Farhad Wadia, the festival's founder, emphasized that Independence Rock is more than just a music event—it's a movement and a gathering of generations, and the pause aims to help it evolve with the current soundscape and spirit.

Looking ahead, the team is exploring ways to adapt the festival to contemporary music tastes and ensure it remains relevant in today’s musical landscape.

Having previously taken a nine-year hiatus, the festival returned in 2022 with notable lineups including Parikrama, Indus Creed, and Thaikkudam Bridge, continuing its legacy as a major rock event in India.
