The 2026 Sundance Film Festival will serve as a tribute to Robert Redford, celebrating his legacy with screenings of his films like 'Downhill Racer' and special anniversary retrospectives of films such as 'American Dream,' 'Half Nelson,' and 'Little Miss Sunshine,' with many original filmmakers attending.

This year's festival marks the final time it will be held in Park City before relocating, emphasizing its historical significance and Redford's enduring influence on independent film.

A tribute series at the Park City Film series starting October 23 will feature screenings of Redford's iconic roles, including 'The Sting' and 'All the President's Men,' with free tickets available through registration.

All Salt Lake tribute screenings will take place at the Broadway Centre Cinemas, with additional Redford-related events in Salt Lake City, including a celebration and screenings of 12 films at the Salt Lake Film Society from November 2 to 27.

The festival, scheduled from January 22 to February 1, 2026, will be accessible both in person and online, with tickets on sale starting Wednesday, supporting the Sundance Institute's artist development efforts, and plans for the 2027 festival in Boulder are already underway.

While the programming for January is still being finalized, with world premieres expected to be announced in December, the event has taken on added emotional significance following Redford's death.

Festival director Eugene Hernandez emphasizes that despite the move from Park City, Sundance's core values of storytelling and community, along with Redford's legacy, will remain central.

Redford's passing has inspired reflection on his contributions, with organizers highlighting the importance of film preservation and repertory cinema, including collaborations with the UCLA Film & Television Archive to restore and preserve films.
