Thomas Bangalter, formerly of Daft Punk, made a rare live DJ appearance at the Centre Pompidou in Paris on October 25, marking his first public DJ set in 16 years and his first without his mask in 24 years.

During this special event, Bangalter played a set featuring Daft Punk classics like 'Contact', 'Digital Love', and 'Rollin’ & Scratchin’', alongside tracks from The Chemical Brothers, DJ Mehdi, and Johnny Greenwood.

Fans reacted positively, sharing clips on social media of Bangalter and Fred again.. playing 'Digital Love' at the event, which was celebrated as a nostalgic highlight.

The performance was part of a celebration for the 20th anniversary of French record label Because Music, organized by Fred again.. and Erol Alkan, and it was widely regarded as a significant moment in electronic music history.

Fred again.. also announced a series of 10 weekly releases and DJ sets across different cities, along with a new single featuring Amyl & The Sniffers, called ‘You’re A Star’.

The set was a surprise back-to-back DJ session with Fred again.., lasting around two hours, and it has been made available for fans to watch on YouTube.

Fred again.. expressed that the set was a meaningful moment for him, emphasizing the emotional significance of Bangalter’s return to the decks.

Bangalter revealed that his first love for electronic music was sparked at the Pompidou Centre in 1992, and he emphasized how important this moment was, given that he hadn’t played a proper set without his mask in over two decades.

In addition to the live set, footage from the event has been released, along with historic clips of Daft Punk performing with Phoenix at Madison Square Garden in 2010.

Looking ahead, Daft Punk’s third album will be reissued as a vinyl remix album on November 28, featuring remixes from Justice, Soulwax, SebastiAN, Basement Jaxx, and others, celebrating its 20th anniversary.

This event marked Thomas Bangalter’s rare return to live DJing after disbanding Daft Punk in 2021, focusing now on scoring projects, and it was a historic moment for electronic music.
