New Docuseries Reveals Secret Tapes of Princess Diana's Unheard Truths About Royal Life
April 30, 2026
A new docuseries, Diana: The Unheard Truth, will feature five hours of secret 1991 audio tapes of Princess Diana recorded with her friend James Colthurst, the core material behind the book Diana: Her True Story.
The tapes reportedly reveal Diana’s views on life within the royal family, her predictions about Charles and Camilla, and her desire for a life independent of the Crown, with contributions from close associates like Delissa Needham, Sam McKnight, Penny Thornton, Wayne Sleep, Ken Wharfe, Dickie Arbiter, Kent Gavin, and Richard Kay.
Love Monday, in partnership with Andrew Morton and James Colthurst, has secured exclusive access to the tapes, which have largely been unheard for about three decades, to challenge the simplified victim narrative surrounding Diana.
Funding for the project comes from Rainmaker Films and Plymouth Films, with distribution still to be determined as the project is shopped worldwide.
Key production details include Sophie Todd as series editor, Emily Hirst producing, Justin Frahm as director of photography, and involvement from Love Monday TV and 53 Degrees Global as producers and executive producers Kerene Barefield and Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt.
The project is led by executive producers Kerene Barefield and Naveed Chowdhary-Flatt, with the above crew and production partners driving the series.
Producers include Rainmaker Films (Clay Pecorin, Russell Geyser, Zak Tanjeloff) and Plymouth Films (Kevin Weisberg), with Love Monday TV and 53 Degrees Global coordinating production and executive production.
The three-part docuseries, tentatively titled Diana: The Unheard Truth, is planned to debut on August 31, 2027 to mark 30 years since Diana’s death, with filming already underway.
The project aims to present new revelations that could alter public perception of Diana by sharing her unvarnished remarks about pressures, her role, and life within the royal family.
Production is conducted through partnerships with 53 Degrees Global and Love Monday TV, aiming to present a new chapter of Diana’s story after her death.
On-screen participation will include Colthurst and Morton, along with publisher Michael O’Mara and other close associates such as Delissa Needham, Sam McKnight, Penny Thornton, Wayne Sleep, Ken Wharfe, Dickie Arbiter, Kent Gavin, and Richard Kay.
