Ink, Danny Boyle’s film about Rupert Murdoch and The Sun editor Larry Lamb, has been selected to open the Venice International Film Festival, marking Boyle’s festival debut.

Claire Foy stars as Jules Davies, Lamb’s wife, with the screenplay adapted by James Graham from his stage play Ink.

Ink adapts Graham’s stage work, dramatizing Murdoch’s 1969 acquisition of The Sun and the ascent of Britain’s tabloid influence.

The project brings together international production entities and nods to Graham’s stage repertoire, including Punch and Ink, with Graham’s broader screen credits such as X+Y, Brexit: The Uncivil War, Quiz, and the Dear England adaptation for BBC.

Studiocanal handles worldwide sales and co-represents domestic rights with WME Independent, planning releases in the UK, France, Germany, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Graham says the story taps early signals of populism, a theme he anticipated before recent political shifts.

The key crew includes director of photography Alwin H. Küchler, production and costume designers Gareth Pugh and Carson McColl, editor Fin Oates, casting by Gail Stevens and Rebecca Farhall, and composer Daniel Pemberton.
