A major archival release, Origins 1971-1978 by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, arrives to celebrate the band's 50th anniversary, tracing their evolution from Mudcrutch to the Heartbreakers with early demos and formative tracks.

The Origins box set includes Parade of Loons (1978), a previously unreleased track with an accompanying music video directed by Peter Sluszka and starring Iain Armitage, released ahead of the box set.

Parade of Loons has a history of being distorted in the studio, which explains its long vault residency before this release, and it has circulated in collectors’ circles for years.

The set also features live and extended material, such as You’re Gonna Get It! (50th Anniversary Edition), Live From the Record Plant 1977, Live on the BBC’s Old Grey Whistle Test 1978, plus The Cut Out Bin selections and other newly mixed tracks.

The Americana Awards ceremony takes place at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium, with Heartbreakers set to perform at 6:30 pm CT as AMERICANAFEST festivities continue in the city.

The event coincides with AMERICANAFEST activities already underway in Nashville, spotlighting a historic reunion moment for the band and its legacy.

Lynch emphasizes that rock bands inevitably carry conflict and drama, but there remains a core foundation of joy, mutual respect, and admiration among Heartbreakers members.

Original Heartbreakers drummer Stan Lynch rejoined on stage for performances of American Girl and Breakdown, marking his first appearance with the group since their 2002 Rock Hall induction.

A high-profile Americana Awards moment will include a Lifetime Achievement tribute to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, with surviving members Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Stan Lynch, and Ron Blair reuniting for performances alongside Chris Stapleton, and later joined by Steve Ferrone and Scott Thurston.

The reunion and Lifetime Achievement acknowledgement underscore the band’s enduring legacy and promote the Origins 1971-1978 box set.

Molly Tuttle and Tyler Childers headline Americana winners, with other performers like Margo Price, S.G. Goodman, and Kathleen Edwards contributing to the night’s lineup.
