A stellar ensemble leads the show, including Mackenzie Crook, Pearce Quigley, Lauren Patel, Sir Michael Palin, Sophie Willan, Jon Pointing, and Paul Kaye.

Michael Sleep’s story centers on his coworker Kacey, his father Brian, and nosy neighbors as they navigate the garden shed’s enigmatic activities, driving the series’ humor and mystery.

Crook portrays the manager Gordon and, along with the rest of the ensemble, guides Michael’s journey from work life toward closer ties with Kacey while tensions rise with neighbors and his manager.

The finale hints at a continuation, leaving Small Prophets in a hopeful, open-ended position.

Critics praise its themes of grief, absence, loneliness, and uncertain hope, underscored by warmth and emotionally resonant storytelling.

The premise blends ordinary life with magical elements through homunculi—prophetic beings created from a unique recipe—to forecast the future.

Apple TV+ carries the series with a premium pricing model, including promotional trials, and distributed it internationally after acquiring rights from Sphere Abacus.

This marks Apple TV+’s first time picking up an existing English-language series that had previously aired elsewhere.

Crook’s direction emphasizes a restrained, understated treatment of the extraordinary, with a second season already ordered.

Filmed around Manchester, the show uses a blend of animation and live-action to explore friendship, hope, and the everyday alongside magical discoveries in Michael’s garden shed.

Set in a Manchester suburb, the narrative balances mundane life with fantasy as homunculi evolve the neighborhood’s dynamics and illuminate grief and resilience.

The series has earned acclaim, including a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score for its first season and awards such as Best Series at Series Mania, signaling strong reception and anticipation for more.
